JETS DARED TO BE GREAT

Liz, our friend from the all-ladies tailgate this year, forwarded us this great description of what it means to be a Jet fan, but too, how beyond our own ups and downs, the team is perhaps daring to finally reach for the stars and stay there.

Could it be true? Decide for yourself...

And thanks Liz for the forward!

JET BABY AIDEN - THE NEXT GENERATION

Wanted to share a picture of our Jet fan legacy. My nephew Aiden. Son of my oldest brother Mike, and his wife Sabrina.

Aiden and his dad, my brother Mike.

All of us were this young once. New to life. 6 months of age. None of us knew it yet, but we'd eventually entangle some of our future hopes and dreams with a sports franchise called the New York Jets.

Some of us, the fewer of our number, witnessed a championship. But most of us have not in our lifetimes. Will we? Will Aiden? Here's hoping. (Hope being what we do best as Jet fans).

Aiden with his grandpa (my dad) Jim, and Lucy the pup.

What I do know is he's already one of us. Even though he can't speak, walk or use a porta-potty. What I know is he's destined to follow the ups and downs of this team with his father, grandfather, and uncles. He'll share the experience with us. For better or for worse. For decades to come. (so long as the Jets stay in business...)

Here's to you, Aiden. Welcome aboard. Please take your seat, buckle up, and make sure your high-chair is in the up-right position. This Jet is taking off soon.

And though we aim to fly high, it's certain to be a bumpy ride...

GO AIDEN. BEAT DIAPERS.

OUR JET FRIENDS IN INDY MAKE THE NEWS!

I'm excited to share that our friend Paul, who we interviewed for the first time in the sub-arctic weather of the final regular season game against Cincinnati, and his crew of amazing Jet fans assembled as strangers off Craigslist to quest west in support of the Jets, made the local news!

Congratulations
Paul Ciochetto, Jesse Librot, Mo Shaalan, Angelo Soprano, Mike Deissig, and Anthony Mills.

Glad you made it home safe and sound, and thanks for sharing your story with us.

SOUL RECOVERY...

Been letting things sit.

I'm still disappointed we got SO smoked in the end of the first half, and the entire second half.

Where was the coaching? We got out-coached. Completely. That's the main thorn in my paw right now.

A friend shared a piece of commentary he heard about the game. That the Jets went into the game with momentum. The Colts went in with confidence. Momentum is a lot easier to break than confidence. So true.

But, instead of whining like a little bee-yatch anymore, I'm going to move past it, like it or not, to the good stuff. The silver lining.

In YEAR ONE of the Rex Ryan era, and YEAR ONE of young as hell rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, WE MADE IT TO THE FINAL FOUR of 32 teams. Not bad at all. In fact it kicks major azz.

Our rookie QB has three huge playoff games under his belt. That's HUGE. And he performed excellently. Made some amazing, key throws when he had to.

We now know what needs fixing for this coming year. Where we were weak, where we can get stronger. Who to re-sign, who to let go, who to pick up.

And I can hear someone busting my chops already about us ALWAYS hoping for next year. ALWAYS looking to pull positivity from the twisted, burning wreck of our hopes and dreams.

Which to that I say OF COURSE we're going to do that. We're JET FANS. And I don't say that cause they always end in failure, I mean we're TOUGHENED by it. We're "seasoned" veterans. (forgive the pun)

Also, hoping a team will be better after playing in the AFC championship game is WAY different than hoping a team will be better after 8-8 and missing the playoffs or 1-15 and wanting to jump off a bridge. HUGE difference. Anyone with a brain can comprehend that.

So it was a wild ride. I thought we'd finish 9-7 at the start of the season if all went well with the rookie coach and QB, and we did actually finished 9-7. (though we lost games I thought we'd win and vice versa). But could I EVER have imagined what came after? Heck no. I don't care how big a fan you are, NO ONE could have predicted this.

But this is the Jets. Who can EVER predict what they'll do? That's part of the charm, the madness. The allure. The agony. The exhilaration. They're certainly an entertaining team to watch. You have to admit that.

Maybe we're lucky all in all to root for such a squad. This organization. This history. These colors. Despite the premature gray hairs they've given me, maybe they've given me more good times than bad.

And maybe the journey every year IS more important than the destination....

OH BULLSH*T I WANT A DAMN CHAMPIONSHIP.

And so we look to next year...

Again...

GO JETS.

HELL OF A YEAR

About the last thing I want to do right now is blog about this game. I'm a little drained quite frankly. I'm also a letting the mass quantities of beer and "Dirty Sanchez" tequila shots wear off.

But to the Jets performance today, I say this. We got beat by a damn good football team. If anything, the Colts adjusted to what we dished out the fist half (we were winning 17-13 at halftime), but we couldn't adjust to their adjustments. Which SUCKS.

I'm really disappointed. I'm just going to go and say that. I'm already deflecting it by saying all the positives about what they accomplished and all that stuff that's true but in all honesty, I really don't have the energy for right now.

They were a game away from a chance at the Superbowl title, were winning at halftime and then NEVER SCORED AGAIN THE REST OF THE GAME.

And that SUCKS. DAMN disappointing. I'm going to leave it at that. I'll spend tomorrow acknowledging the silver linings to this cloud. I already did some of it at the bar, on camera after the game.

But tonight, it just sucks. Is disappointing. And I feel I deserve to be a little pissed that we had no answer for what changes the Colts made. NO response. Beyond the 2 missed field goals. The Colts walked all over us in the second half. That was hard to watch.

So. Season over. Hell of a year indeed. I'll break it down more in the days to come. Now I need a soul nap to recharge the batteries.

BATTLE IN INDY TODAY

Here we go, Jet Nation.

Battle in Indianapolis to crown the champs of the American Football Conference. A champion who shall represent ALL American Football Conference teams to go up against the champion of the National Football Conference in the Superbowl.

We've been here three times before.

Once as the victors in 68'. Namath and company advancing to Superbowl III in Jan. of 69' where we beat the Baltimore Colts.

Once in the 82'-83' season where we lost to Miami, in Miami.

Once in the 98'-99' season where we lost to Denver, in Denver.

And today we battle again. Looking to go 2-2 in these Championship contests.

Will we do it? We'll know in a couple hours.

CAN we do it? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT.

I'm SO excited and am heading to the bar now to meet with Ben and friends Chris, Cory and many others.

Break out the lucky jerseys. Fly the Jet flag. Wear your lucky underwear. WE'LL NEED IT ALL TODAY.

CHAMPIONSHIP EVE...

Here we go friends.

Championship eve...

I'm excited.

Watching the analysis on Sportscenter and ESPN.com, I'm feeling even more confident about our chances against the Colts. I'm not getting overconfident here, but I just feel that there is NO DOUBT IN MY MIND we can win this game.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I'm tempted to say I feel we can beat anybody left in the tournament. I do believe that. That's not just me being a hopeful, optimistic, lifelong Jet-fan.

The kind of football this team is playing, anythings possible.

And the most exciting part is this: No matter WHAT happens tomorrow, next year WE'RE ONLY GOING TO BE STRONGER.

How's THAT for reason to keep believing.

If they say we Jet fans drank the cool-aid, then I'm guzzling it now...

DON'T INSULT THE JETS

Let's put something to rest, shall we? The Jets were only down 5 points against the Colts heading into the third quarter before the Colts pulled their starters.

There is NO guarantee the Colts would have won. None. Yeah yeah I know we'll find out Sunday who wins. But everyone that assumes the Colts resting Payton and others meant automatic Jet failure and elimination from playoff contention can kiss my butt.

It's insulting.

As for me, I'll be back at Swig on 2nd Avenue and 85th street to watch the game. I'm SO excited. Can't wait.

STOP BUST'N MY CHOPS

When I was interviewed by ESPN the magazine on Sirius satellite radio December 2nd, before the curse breaking ceremony on the 3rd, one of the two Gary's interviewing me busted my chops about how many other NFL teams have longer Superbowl droughts than the Jets.

Some haven't even BEEN to the Superbowl, let alone won one. Which we have, the 68'-69' season.

To that I say what I've said all along. First of all, I don't root for those teams and so I couldn't give a rats ass how long it's been for them. I root for the Jets. I want my team to win a damn championship in my lifetime so I can die a happy man.

Second. Rooting for a team like the Detroit Lions, a team who have never been to the Superbowl, is EASY. It SUCKS, but it's not difficult. Rooting for a team you HOPE wins but have no expectation of them winning is WAY different that rooting for one that gives you not just hope but REAL POTENTIAL TO WIN and then collapses inexplicably. Year after year. Decade after decade.

And this year defends my feelings. THIS SEASON, the 2009-10 season shows EXACTLY what the Jets have ALWAYS tempted their fans with. The POTENTIAL to be in the AFC Championship game or more.

THIS is the reason we go crazy with this team. Why we stick by them and why we love them. What we keep waiting for. Why our sports loving souls are entwined with theirs forever.

We ALWAYS KNOW they could reach this level. COULD. But they mostly DON'T. And usually by shooting themselves in the foot and leaving that amazing talent and potential at home when they head to the stadium. AND OR having such things as the unexplained five missed field goals by our opponents this playoff season HAPPEN TO US. Or a bad call. A fumble bouncing right to the other team. Etc...

BUT NOW IT'S DIFFERENT. NOW everyone sees what we've ALWAYS SEEN. This does NOT happen in Detroit. Not in Cleveland, though they had a few good years with Kosar back in the 80's. Not with the Cardinals no matter St. Louis or Arizona, as they've only recently gotten good. The Jets have ALWAYS (except for the coach Kotite years where we won 4 games in two years), put players and coaches in place to make this kind of run if they could only get over that hump.

And why after the events of this season thus far, NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS SUNDAY AGAINST THE COLTS - I now feel vindicated.

And why I say again, "STOP BUST'N MY CHOPS." Now you get it.

GO JETS. BEAT INDIANAPOLIS.

JET FANS QUEST WEST

Jet fans everywhere are gearing up for this exciting American Football Conference Championship. GATEWAY TO THE SUPERBOWL.

(NOT just to the Superbowl - GETTING THERE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I WANT SUPERBOWL VICTORY)

Many we know are crusading west to support the team in person. Below is one such story from a great Jet fan Paul, who we met in the sub-arctic temperatures before we beat the HELL out of the Cincinnati Bungles...

Hi. Remember me? You met my wife n me, as well as my sister from Seattle and my dog Jack at my camper van at the final game at the old stadium?

Hope all is well. I have a story for you... I posted on craigslist for a carpool to Indy. My wife can't go. I've connected with 4 strangers (huge fans) who have all agreed to ride in my van to Indy.

4 are meeting in New Jersey tonight (I can't be there, I'm on long island) and will work out where they're gonna park everybody's car in one locale. I'll hear from them tonight and pick them all up Saturday A.M.

Also, people are trusting strangers by using Paypal to pay for tix they've never seen, nor have they ever seen the person who they paid (me). One guy just paid me for ticket I bought on Stubhub so were sitting together.

2 friends who bought tix on their own before I ever spoke to them will be in section 614 row 14. Guess where my tix r? Section 614 row 7. You can't make this stuff up.

And a fifth guy who friend canceled last min to take a flight has joined our crew. He has a single in another section but is looking to trade to b near us.

Were not all even sitting together...but we have a common goal...to be there. I'm collecting cash from all on Saturday morning at one guys house in NJ for gas tolls, parking, etc... and were off! 5 strangers drive 700 miles to cheer on Jets...I'm looking forward to the experience.

And we can't wait to hear how it went. GO PAUL! MIKE! MO! ANTHONY! ANGELO! God bless'ya... Safe journey!

JET NATION GROWS...

Tuesday January 19th. Two of my best friend's birthday's today. John and Sean. HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

I feel like I've just been born. I swear I'm still recovering from the emotional ups and downs of the Jets/Chargers game Sunday. I still don't think it's fully sunk in somehow, but that's fine. There'll be time to reflect on the magnitude when the fightin's done.

I was on line at a bank yesterday to cash in change I've been saving (any change I come home with I throw in a jar and apply to a trip or something special for myself) and a really cute girl behind me told me she liked my hat, my Jets baseball hat my dad got me for my birthday this past Rocktober, and I said thanks. She said she'd bought a button for the last game, (where does one get Jet buttons? Do people still make buttons? "I Like Ike" kind of buttons?) but she's looking for a hat and was scoping mine out. (okay, she was scoping me out no doubt)

But it brought up some interesting feelings about being a long-time Jet fan. The fact that there WILL be New Yorkers caught up in the Jet-love and wanting to lend their support, and YES we who are life-long fans WILL be confused for fair-weather fans.

I thought of that while on the subway into Manhattan and this little guy down the train car caught my eye with a wave, pointed to my hat and gave me a HUGE thumbs up and a smile, which I returned with a Jet-strong fist pump. I almost yelled out, "YEAH BABY" like was drunk at the bar again but then remembered I was in public. (not that yelling passionately out of context is foreign in NYC)

But did he KNOW I've been with them all along? Does he think I bought the hat just because they've reached the AFC championship? Was HE going to run out and pick up a hat now so he can join in on the Jet fan fun of calling each other out and nodding, waving hello?

I know I FEEL like we long-time fans want some way to delineate. But in the end, I don't give a rats butt. I gotta let that crap go.

The more humans we can get cheering for the Jets, throwing the positive vibe out there, the better. I really believe that. If we're going to be paying attention to this team, and millions are joining us next week, even if for the first time, let's have that attention be positive. Completely. Increasingly.

So ROCK ON Jet new-comers. And WELCOME. Hopefully some of you will be converted and stick around no matter what happens this year, next, or the next few decades.

But for now, we chant as one. What's that chant they do, you ask? Let's get some practice in, newbies...

"J! E! T! S! JETS! JETS! JETS!"

Got it?

Now go get'm, tiger.

MORE VICTORY!!!!!!!!

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! WE DID IT ! WE DID IT! WE DID IT!!!!!!

THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL JETS DEFEATED THE SAN DIEGO FOOTBALL CHARGERS 17-14 TONIGHT IN SAN DIEGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHOO-HOO! I can't believe it. And yet I can. I was SO focused on us winning the game that when it was over it took time to sink in that we're in our FIRST American Football Conference Championship since 1998!!!!!! MAN it's been a while!!!!!!!!!!

HOLY CRAP-BAWLS I'M EXCITED!!!!!!!!

The bar on the upper east side of Manhattan I watched the game at was ROCK'N! There were about 40 or 50 Jet fans there SCREAMING our heads off.

Lexa Rosean, who helped us with the Jets curse-breaking ceremony in Times Square was there and shared the experience with us, doing what she could to help us by buying shots in honor of the god I communed with or asked the favor of during the ceremony on December 3rd in Times Square and I feel if anyone deserve drinks it's that god if they helped answer our prayers.

But HUGE props go to the Jets football team, staff and organization for putting together an effort that will go down in Jets history as one of the best ever. Beating a VERY good football team ON THE ROAD.

NO ONE can doubt the Jets now. NO ONE. Not their talent, not their heart, not their determination to win. And the seeming MAGIC involved is extraordinary. The Bengals missed TWO field goal tries last week with me yelling "MISS IT! MISS IT!" like a 5th grader jumping up and down and they DID miss them both. The Chargers tried to kick THREE field goals this game and after yelling, "MISS IT! MISS IT!" like a drunk maniac, THEY MISSED ALL THREE.

It's ASTOUNDING. It's like the woes and missed kicks that usually went AGAINST the Jets the last 40 years are now going against our ENEMIES. Could this be the curse reversed? Could this be some spiritual shift? Could Jet Nation be finally believing????

I'll give you an example of the change in spirit that I'M feeling. There came a moment with three minutes on the clock or so and the Chargers had the ball and a couple Jet fans near me were feeling tense and looking at the three minutes as some length of time to be SUFFERED and CAN we withstand their onslaught and ESCAPE with the victory???

And to that I shouted NO! There's THREE MINUTES LEFT TO SCORE MORE POINTS ON THESE BASTARDS!!!! PILE IT ON! RUN UP THAT SCORE!!!! THAT'S how I feel right now about the Jets. NO MORE FEAR. NO MORE WAITING FOR THE OTHER SHOE TO DROP.

THOSE DAYS ARE OVER. THOSE YEARS OF LOST CHANCES AND AGONIZING FAILURES. WE'RE the team to beat and everyone ELSE is to fear US with three minutes left. Fearing they'll get SACKED and lose the ball for a defensive touchdown. Fearing an INTERCEPTION that will go back for a score.

THERE IS NO OTHER SHOE TO DROP. THERE IS ONLY OUR SHOE GOING UP THE OTHER TEAMS' ASS. (yeah, I said ass. I'm a little drunk after celebrating the pumped up game and enjoying some victory shots, which I shall explain below...)

We experienced a shot unique to the bar "Swig" on 85th and 2nd Ave. in Manhattan, the "Dirty Sanchez". It's a shot of tequila with pepper on one half of the rim. (like a mustache) It was great. Had three or four during the course of the game. So forgive my antics.

The JETS ARE VICTORS. THE JETS ARE PLAYING FOR THE RIGHT TO GO TO THE SUPERBOWL REPRESENTING THEIR CONFERENCE. IT'S AMAZING! A JET HOLIDAY.

A REMATCH OF SUPERBOWL THREE, THE LAST TIME WE'VE BEEN IN THAT GAME TO DECIDE A CHAMPION.

As for that upcoming battle, I'll save my thoughts and feelings for this week.

But for now, I celebrate. I revel in the Jets victory. I LOVE that EVERYONE bet against us. I LOVE that NO commentator picked us. "Chargers have too many weapons." "The Jets need THREE Revis' to cover all their receivers."

BULL-CRAP! ALL OF THEM WRONG! MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! If I was them I'd probably have to bet against the Jets too. It would seem irrational to pick them. But we're not rational. We're fans. I KNEW we could beat them and not long after half time, when it was 7-0 San Diego I KNEW if we could hold this "AMAZING" offense to SEVEN POINTS in one entire half, that WE'D WIN THIS GAME. We'd whip up a couple amazing plays and SHOVE IT DOWN THEIR THROATS.

AND THEY DID. I GUARANTEED the game early in the third quarter. You can see it on tape. I NEVER lost confidence after that. I KNEW we'd win this game, and I KNEW their late touchdown was of no consequence. Too little too late, SD.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! A JETS VICTORY!

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Joe for coming out and visiting us, thanks to Cory and Chris for letting us hang with your amazing (and amazingly large) Jet crew at Swig, thanks to Swig for great food, drink and service and thanks to ALL the well wishers and loved ones who shared their positivity and hope today, beaming it to us and the Jets, helping make history that I'll never forget!

GO JETS! BEAT INDIANAPOLIS...AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Mark J. Williamson!!!!!!!

BRING ON THE CHARGERS...

Well folks this is it. Next battle on our improbable 2009 road. Glad we're still on it.

Of the 32 teams in the league, at the time of this entry, there are 6 teams left. That we're one of them is AWESOME. And I'm proud of the team, the organization, and the fans for sticking together and getting it done.

I just picked up my copies of the Sunday New York Times and am so excited to see George Vecsey's article on page 3. Very cool. My mom and dad called to congratulate us and friends and family have been sending their well wishes.

This positive buzz can only help with our mission to help the Jets win a championship. To do whatever we fans (and family and friends of fans) can do to keep up the positive Jet energy. What have we got to lose? Nothing. Sure we've been blasted in the past. Sure we've had our heart broken.

But BELIEVE. Work at it. Get it done. For your own enjoyment and sanity if nothing else. Any Jet fans out there awaiting humiliating doom ain't help'n any. Ain't helping yourself and you're bringing everyone else down with you. Get over it.

What any of us feel about the game may indeed have NOTHING to do with the results on the field of battle in San Diego. Nothing.

Yet I KNOW we all have things we'll do to help them out. (or we know people who do) You wear a certain jersey with a certain number. You wear a certain pair of underwear. My dad bought and flies a Jet flag from his house after having flown a Yankee flag and they won the World Series. My dad and I even switched back to our original seats in Giants Stadium the last few games - I started on the left, my dad on the right, and switching seats to get him away from the old guy with the radio head-phones who kept leaning in on him - the Jets lost EVERY HOME GAME after that. So we switched back, and they've won every home game since.

I was in Sacramento the night of the "Monday Night Miracle" when the Jets overcame a 30-7 score to win 40-37 against the Miami Dolphins, and the friend who's apartment it was, a HUGE Jet fan, placed two things on the top of his TV at halftime. His green New York Yankees hat (the green for the Jets, the Yanks logo for his love of that New York team), and about a 5 inch tall crucifix. And I'm not kidding you that EXACTLY when he did that, THE GAME TURNED AROUND.

Chance? Coincidence? WHO CARES. It made him feel good. Made him feel hope. We all felt it from him. Boosted our spirits for the moment he put it there. And that's all that matters.

You can watch the game soaked in negativity and worry, or get off your butt and cheer against all odds. Your individual experience is up to you. I know which of the two I'll be doing.

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. I hope one day you'll join us. And the JETS WILL WIN A FRIGGIN' SUPERBOWL.

GO JETS. BEAT THE HELL OUT OF SAN DIEGO.

JETS CURSE IN THE NEW YORK TIMES

EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT

I was interviewed by the New York Times' extremely talented sports columnist George Vecsey yesterday, and below is the link to the article. Keep a lookout for the spread in the Sunday Times sports section as well!

Thanks for your interest in tracking down our story George, and for your kindness. A pleasure talking with you.

NY TIMES ARTICLE [BACK arrow to return to blog]

For those of you checking out "The Jets Curse" after reading the Times article, welcome and thanks for stopping by.

Hope you can get some of the feel of our Jet-fan experience through my exploration of this 2009-2010 season, one of both great hope (new quarterback Mark Sanchez, new head coach Rex Ryan, last year in Giants Stadium), and the same-old-same-old (not living up to their potential) and why we still love them regardless.

As for the game tomorrow. Big game. No doubt. People are asking me what my take is. Curse removal or not.

WILL the Jets win? I honestly can't say. I can be a bold fan and scream SUPERBOWL HERE WE COME from the rooftops. But I'm a Jet fan. My heart has exploded too many times not to remember the scars of the past.

CAN the Jets win? MOST DEFINITELY. With flawless execution, the Chargers playing sloppy, and a great deal of luck bouncing their way.

This is a game where heart will count for much. Maybe more than talent. In that realm the Jets seem to have plenty. And nothing to lose.

They lose this game, we move on to next year stronger. Excited of what's to come. Chargers lose this game? HEADS WILL ROLL. That's a huge difference when stepping onto the field of battle. Will it matter? We'll know Sunday evening my friends.

And I'll be at "Swig", a bar @ 85th and 2nd Ave. in Manhattan with friends to watch it. We'll have our cameraman/editor extraordinaire Ben with us to capture the experience, and conduct some more fan interviews. If you're in the hood, "swig" by and say hi.

THE OVERDOG

My entire life the Jets have been the underdog.

I think you come to accept it.

But lately, since the curse breaking ceremony in particular, I've been dreaming of the Jets being the "overdog".

I want the JETS to be on the 11-0 run with the first round playoff bye. (The San Diego Chargers have that honor at present) I want the undefeated season. (Indianapolis Colts were until we beat'm) I want teams to be DREADING having to come to The New Meadowlands stadium. You want a Superbowl, THE ROAD ALWAYS GOES THROUGH NEW YORK. (even though the game is in NJ, they'll be staying and eating in New York City, you know it)

Sanchez the feared field commander under center, SHREDDING defenses with the number one and number two receivers in the league (whoever they will be), and a defense that's ranked with the best the league has ever seen. Better than head coach Rex Ryan's when he won the 00' Superbowl with the Baltimore Ravens.

JETS AS OVERDOG.

Regardless what happens this year, that's still my dream. More than a championship? At present, no. I'll take an against all odds victory like the Giants had a couple years ago. (and sorry Giant fans, it was against all odds). But I knew going into this season it was a rebuilding year. A first for Sanchez AND Ryan. For all the new players, and a meshing of the staff and re-aligning of the organization, especially with the stadium under way and all the changes there.

But in the long term, OVERDOG'S THE DREAM.

May this season be the first step to a JET DYNASTY. Couldn't come at a better time, with New England on the slide.

THE KING IS DEAD. LONG LIVE THE KING.

GO JETS. BEAT THE CHARGERS. BEAT THE COLTS OR RAVENS, I DON'T CARE WHICH (the bigger they are...) THEN BEAT THE CARDINALS OR SAINTS OR COWBOYS OR VIKINGS AND I'LL SEE YOU AT THE PARADE IN THE CANYON OF HEROES.

(i don't ask for much, do i? just victory... COMPLETE AND CRUSHING VICTORY. Aren't you ready, Jet Nation? Hasn't it been long enough???)

FAIR WEATHER FANS

Been talking to Wayne and Ben about the documentary and how it's all coming together thus far. Of course we don't know the ending yet, but one thing is for sure...

THIS YEAR IS A MICROCOSM OF AN ENTIRE LIFETIME OF JET FANDOM.

It really is. My hope is that watching this documentary will not just challenge or remind Jet fans just WHY they stay with this team (instead of jumping to the Giants, or worse, pulling for another city), but will inform the rest of the fans of the league and non sports fans alike why we stick by them. What it's like to root for them, especially now more than ever with so much change in this 2009 season.

And what's MORE interesting is that with the Jets making the playoffs and the Giants not, Wayne's telling me about fair-weather fans that are popping up. People who only wear the green when the green wear victory. Happens in every sport I know, but thinking Superbowl as I am now (not specifically due to this season but because of my curse-breaking ceremony where I call for a championship victory), I wonder just how PISSED I'll be seeing non-fans jumping on board and sharing the victory after I've waited a damn lifetime to celebrate.

It's like my oldest brother Mike LOVING the heavy metal band Metallica back in the 80's when they first came out and NO ONE knew who they were. Then EVERYONE knew who they were and he was like, "aw MAN! I've been with them FOREVER! I was here FIRST!"

But such is greatness. People flock to it. And the true believers must suffer them. Beats suffering them in victory then suffering alone in defeat.

I'm willing to put up with a few hangers on if it means we're world champions. I've put up with defeat for so long, that'll be a small price to pay indeed.

GO JETS. BEAT SAN DIEGO.

AFC CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS?

While I know we must take one game at a time, (as time proceeds in that fashion), the Jets organization emailed my dad (a first time season ticket holder) about getting tickets for the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship game, the one that gets you into the Superbowl.

Yes it's troo. Should the Jets (5th seed of 6 teams going into the playoffs) and the Baltimore Colts (6th seed of 6) be the last two AFC teams standing, then the Jets with the higher seed would HOST THE AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

Thus, one would need tickets to see it.

Fascinating thought. That there still is a chance, albeit far fetched at present, that I could be at Giants Stadium once more. And that anyone who ripped up and smuggled their seat out during the last game, (thought the last before the wrecking ball hits) will be sitting on a concrete slab.

For now though, dad, my brothers and I focus on the lightning bolts from San Diego.

JETS GAINING ALTITUDE

How high can the Jets fly? I don't know how high they WILL fly, but I know how high they CAN fly. With the number one regular season defense and rushing game, and a rookie QB who got his mojo back against Cincinnati, they can beat anybody.

Yeah I said it. They can beat anybody.

WILL they beat everyone? Unknown.

But I'm excited. They made mistakes against the Bengals but they weren't enough to kill them like they usually are. Continue making them (Braylon Edwards) and we're going home quick.

But what excites me are the following: WE"VE GOT NOTHING LOSE. We're the underdogs. No one expects anything from us. BEST place to be. Pressure's on the Colts (who have a tradition of losing in the playoffs when they rest players the end of the regular season), on the Chargers who've won 11 straight and are due for a loss. No team can keep a streak like that going. First round bye week or not.

Pressure's on the favored teams. Not the upstarts in my opinion.

So whether we lose this week or go on to win the Superbowl, I'm excited by the following fact - that the number one defense and rushing attack, along with our rookie passing game, is ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER in the off-season.

The Rex Ryan era has begun with a BANG no matter what happens. And I can't wait to see where it leads.

And I've done my part, along with a number of passionate Jet fans by breaking whatever curse or shadow or blockage has plagued this team my entire life. (just in case) So all realities have been covered. Now it's up to the players.

Do THEY believe?

We'll find out this Sunday.

GO JETS. BEAT SAN DIEGO.

How long you can enjoy a Jets playoff victory?

From my emails with Peter this morning.

9:22 AM Wayne
and how happy are you this morning?

9:23 Peter
Happy is almost over, now on to the nerve racking week.

9:24 Wayne
when does the nervousness kick in for you?

9:24 Peter
Yesterday afternoon at 4:30

I'm impressed. I once saw the Patriots win a Superbowl and a Pats fan turned to me during the trophy presentation and say, "Yeah, I'll be impressed if they can do it again."

Hmm, I hope Peter doesn't kill me for using a Patriots fan for comparison.

VICTORY!!!!!!!!

OH YEAH BABY!

The New York Jets beat the CRAP out of the Cincinnati Bengals today 24-14 IN Cincinnati!

SO MUCH FOR ROLLING OVER LAST WEEK IN ORDER TO SAVE YOUR STRENGTH, BUNGLES!

I KNEW that wasn't a good idea for them. STOOPID. And it'll work against the Colts too. Wait and see.

But I had a GREAT time over at Wayne's watching the game. SO excited and exciting. I really never doubted that this game could be ours. Even when we got backed up due to penalties and such. And STOOPID drops like BRAYLON EDWARDS' in the endzone for a certain touchdown. Can't wait to hear his excuse for that one.

THIS IS PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL. THIS IS THE PLAYOFFS. You do NOT win playoff games or Superbowl rings by DROPPING PASSES THAT HIT YOU ON THE NUMBERS IN THE ENDZONE.

Sorry Braylon, but if I feel this is it for you. You've had your chances this year to impress and put the dropped passes you experienced in Cleveland behind you. We need sure hands for this kid as he's learning.

Instead of an impressive touchdown BOMB to make the highlight reel, he gets an in-completion on his permanent record.

Sanchez was GREAT. Made some great, key throws, much like he did back in the first three games of the year. Thank GOD that Sanchez showed up again. He had an 80% completion rating which is the best EVER I believe they said for the playoffs. Amazing.

So, not a perfect game, but a solid victory none the less. Now the nation is aware of us. They know the Jets are for real and must be taken seriously. You have the number one defense and number one rushing game you'd be a fool to do otherwise.

We're hot. We're on a streak. Bitches better LOOK THE HELL OUT.

GO JETS! BEAT (WHOEVER HAS THE MISFORTUNE TO HAVE TO PLAY US)!

Mark J. Williamson

THIS IS IT

Here we go, Jet Nation.

I'm excited to watch the game today. Filled with nothing but confidence. Still riding high from the victory last week, it was a great night no matter what the circumstances. As was the Colts game, and every other victory we've won over the last many games.

This team could win today. As I'm an actual Jet fan and not completely mad, I'm aware of past collapses just when our hopes are up.

But there's more hope at stake here than even this campaign. There's the future.

No matter what happens in the playoffs this year, I'm SO excited to see where the Rex Ryan era is headed.

To be in the playoffs year one of his reign, DESPITE Sanchez's learning curve and the teams shaky play during the year - is PROMISING.

And not the promise or hope we fabricate every year when there's actually little there to be excited about. When we HAVE to have something to hang our hat on or we'll go mad.

This current team, built upon from last year, will build in the off season and only get stronger whether we lose today or win the Superbowl.

So THAT'S what I'm feeling today. I'm not even saying this cause I'm protecting my emotions against a loss. I'm feeling up. Positive. Anythings possible. We're the underdog, as we've always been, and I LOVE that. We have NOTHING to lose.

The Bengals, the Colts and everyone else (except maybe the Ravens) have EVERYTHING to lose cause they were held in such high regard this year. No one's thought DOOKEY-SQUAT about us. That's PERFECT.

So here we go. One game one game only. There is no Superbowl. There is no AFC Championship. There is today. And let today be the only day.

GO JETS. BEAT CINCINNATI.

Peter fills us in on his state of mind

From Peter via email.

I must tell you Wayne, I'm already starting to get that crazy feeling inside me. Soon nobody will be able to speak to me, because of the insanity that is happening in my brain, and it's not even 10:30 yet. I'm sure by tonight I will be unable to live with, tomorrow morning, call the men with the white coats. I didn't think I would react this way, but some how, as usual I've fallen victim to the hype of my beloved Jets making the playoffs, and quite possibly making some noise. The only thing I can say now is: LET'S GO JETS

LET'S GO RAVENS

We need the Championship game in our house for the last time, and really stick it up the Giants asses!

PICTURES FROM THE 37-0 VICTORY!

Sharing some pics my dad took of our great victory over the Cincinnati "Bungles" this past Sunday in the last game at Giants Stadium. 1.3.10

It was 8 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill. I wore what I normally wear skiing once a year in the Adirondack mountains, knowing my gear has handled -30 Fahrenheit wind chill. I was indeed toasty. Thanks Ben for the toe-warming pads, as that was the only thing getting to me during out FOUR HOURS of pre-game interviews.

Though dressed in red/white/blue snow-gear, I did have my #80 Chrebet jersey on under it all. Was going to wear it on the outside, but getting that off, AND my jacket, AND the top part of my snow pants, ALL in the disgusting porta-potty when I have to release it? No thanks.

Had a great time interviewing and meeting fans, and an even better time during the game. This one will go down in the memory banks as one of our greatest, most satisfying victories.

New stadium, left, to open later 2010. Giants Stadium, right, first opened 1976.

Dad and I heading in for the last time.

Jets roar onto the field.

Producer/Director Wayne finally gets to enjoy a game with us. We got to join him on the lower level after half-time.

Complete ROUT. I don't care if people say the Bungles wanted to lose in order to play us again in the first round. WHO CARES. They got HUMILIATED on national TV. HOW is that a positive heading into the playoffs? Even their starters sucked.

JETS WIN! WE'RE IN THE PLAYOFFS, BABY!

Very cool moment after most of the crowd left, players, cheerleaders and head coach Rex Ryan came back out of the locker-room to high-five the remaining fans while music played. Dad and I were on our way out, heard a roar from the field, looked in and saw Jets running around, so EVERYONE flooded from the main corridor of the stadium back down the aisles to ring the field. It was cool to see.

My Dad took this shot of the lot after the game. It was a WRECK. More so than usual following a game. Untended fires were still burning, and cameraman/editor Ben and I saw a small propane tank explode in a boom of spark and fire. Very cool. (so long as we were 30 yards away)

JETS FLY ONWARD AND UPWARD

Victory. Sweet, complete, crushing victory.

MAN did the Jets beat the snot out of the Cincinnati Bengals as desired. The Jets were ready to rip some heads off, and they did.

37-0!!!! Bengals couldn't even muster a field-goal. Last night was a great Jet victory that I'll never forget, and shall go down in Jet history. Everything on the line. Our whole season. The last game at Giants Stadium.

AND THEY DELIVERED. BIG-TIME.

I'm so happy. I was SO excited to head out to the stadium, despite the freezing cold weather, roam the lot, meet more fans, and meet up with my dad to see which Jet team would show up. Thank goodness the victorious Jets did. The ones who ran the ball more than threw it. The ones who wanted it bad.

Game was over by the end of the first half pretty much. Then, a nice bonus, Wayne, Ben, and fellow camera man (and Jet fan) Dan got to join us in the stadium for the game. First time all year. VERY cool.

One of the coolest moments was being down by the field with my dad at after the game ended, as the hazy moon was hanging over the stadium one last time, and some of the players came out of the tunnel to high-five fans hanging over the 10 foot high wall around the field. Coach Rex Ryan came out too, and the cheer-leaders. (yeah!)

It was a great moment. The fans delivered indeed. As did the players. But to know how cold it was, how windy, and to see that lot full, and the stadium full. It was GREAT. And I'm so happy to have been a part of it and see it with my dad and my friends. A great way to end the regular season, and close down Giants Stadium, our reluctant home, with honor.

Thanks to Wayne, Ben, Dan for all their hard work. Ben and Dan shooting interviews where they couldn't feel their hands, Wayne for organizing and directing the nine hour shoot. (Arrived 3pm, half hour before the parking lot opened, finished up around or after 12 midnight).

To Peter (and his daughter Tiffany), Jimmy, Moe, and all the men at 16G, Jeff and the Jets Bus crew at 16F, Paul from Long Island who flew his sister in from Seattle Washington just to share the game with him, to "The Flag Guy" (and Tie Guy) who served their 20+ crew a shot of Southern Comfort every fifteen minutes to keep everyone warm (following a roar and a JETS! chant) and ALL the fans we met again or for the first time.

THANK YOU.

Special thanks to Chris and Cory for letting us hang with them as well. It was a great time. Sorry I didn't get to say good-bye. My dad and I were soaking up the confetti and fireworks closer to the field.

What a night. One I'll never forget.

THE JETS DELIVERED BABY! Now bring on the Bengals AGAIN. This Saturday at 4:30pm in Cincinnati.

GO JETS! BEAT THESE "BUNGLES" AGAIN!

HERE WE GO!!!!!

Change of plans. Wayne's about to pick me up any minute now, and we're heading straight to the stadium to be there when the gates open and the Jet faithful arrive at the stadium to bear the cold and prep for Jet battle.

My dad will be meeting me down there, he's driving down from Orange County, NY. I'm wearing mega layers today. What I wear skiing (the few times I go). It's handled minus 30 degrees without a wisp of cold air getting in, so it should do for the 22 degrees out in the swamp, which weather.com says will feel like 8 degrees (Fahrenheit).

Wish us luck on the final regular season game of 2009, the last football game at Giants Stadium before its destruction and birth of The New Meadowlands later this year, and a night that shall surely chill out bones.

BUT TONIGHT'S JET VICTORY SHALL KEEP US WARM.

GO JETS. BEAT DA BENGALS. PUSH FORWARD INTO THE PLAYOFFS.

TOMORROW TOMORROW I LUV YA TOMORROW

Looking forward to tomorrow. We're going by #1 Jet fan Peter's house to see him prep for the game, then we're heading to the stadium to capture this EXTREMELY fascinating evening of events.

What's at stake?

The Jets 2009 season. Win? We're in the playoffs with a shot at the Superbowl. Screw poo-pooing the fact we may not make it cause we're not good enough blah blah blah. Fact is this. You make the playoffs, YOU PLAY ANOTHER WEEK. Everyone else in the league is sitting on their butts or playing golf. You get to suit up. THAT'S COOL.

It's like playing the lotto. Are you certain you'll get the grand prize? No. But you've a chance. Don't buy a ticket? You've got none. And fantasizing about what you'll do with the money is a level of entertainment that's maybe worth a buck in these dark economic times.

So let us dream the chances...

Also on the line, the last football game at Giants Stadium before the wrecking ball hits. The Giants disgraced the building with their hideous loss last Sunday to the Carolina Panthers. It's up to the Jets to salvage the final football experience of the building.

We'll know after tomorrow if it's one more week of hope or shift our energy to next season. No matter the outcome of this campaign, I feel the Jets are headed in the right direction. The thought of this team having the off season to take stock, make amends, beef up, analyze what worked what didn't, and come back strong as heck for their new stadium - is encouraging.

As for this season, I'll be there tomorrow nigh, in the freezing swamp in winter night. Will my dad and I exit Gate A for the last time flush with the warmth of victory? Or chilled with the frost of defeat?

Tomorrow will reveal all.

GO JETS. BEAT THE FROZEN SNOT OUT OF CINCINNATI.

2010 A JET ODYSSEY

This year shall reveal much about our Jet future.

The final home game of the season shall be fought in the dawn of 2010.

Then, in the late summer we'll see our first taste of the brand new stadium. The first EVER built with the Jets in mind.

We'll know by then how this year ended up, and what changes will have been made in the off season. All the work the returning players will have put in to forge an even stronger team for the 2010-11 campaign.

So I look forward to this year. So much to hope for. So much on the line.

A unique time to be a Jet fan.

Here's to 2010, "A Jet Odyssey".

HAPPY JET YEAR.
